Socio-Economic Rehabilitation Programme for South Lebanon

With the Institut d’Aménagement et d’Urbanisme de la Région d’Ile de France (IAURIF), ECODIT participated in the preparation of a post-conflict socio-economic rehabilitation program for South Lebanon, financed by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) through the High Relief Committee (HRC). ECODIT prepared the water resource development component of the proposed program, including both water quantity and water quality aspects, and identified several assets/opportunities and concerns/challenges for water resource management in South Lebanon. ECODIT proposed a 10-year vision and recommended a three-year plan for water resource management in South Lebanon.ECODIT outlined seven main goals for water resource quantity and described approaches and actions to achieve those goals under the 10-year vision and the three-year plan. Likewise, ECODIT outlined a 10-year vision and a three-year action plan to achieve six water quality goals. ECODIT participated in the analysis of short-, medium-, and long-term institutional arrangements to implement the proposed rehabilitation program.ECODIT also conducted an environmental assessment of the proposed program, evaluating the potential environmental impacts of proposed activities and formulating environmental mitigation, monitoring and management measures to control, reduce or eliminate those impacts.
