Working closely with key stakeholders, ECODIT has helped to formulate
coastal zone management recommendations for Lebanon, select adequate
technologies and sites for wastewater treatment in Morocco, and develop an
Environmental Management Plan for an irrigation project in
Armenia.

Choosing adapted environmental technologies and policies
ECODIT has provided institutional and technical support to three West
Bank villages in joining forces to acquire a tractor-trailer, provide
joint solid waste services, and collect service fees.
Forging public-private partnerships to build and operate environmental projects
In Morocco, ECODIT has forged long-term partnerships among local
governments, NGOs, and industry and has helped them to plan, design,
build, and operate a wastewater treatment and reuse plant in Drarga and a
chromium recovery facility for tannery effluents in Fez.
Securing project financing and cost recovery
ECODIT has helped government agencies, municipalities, and industry
groups to obtain financing or co-financing and ensure cost recovery for
environmental projects, including a US$40 million plasma plant to treat
hazardous waste in Malaysia and water projects worth over US$4 million in
Morocco.
Encouraging decentralized cooperation among municipalities and villages

ECODIT provides long-term technical support to Medcities, a network of
Mediterranean cities, in conducting municipal environmental audits,
improving solid waste and environmental management practices, and training
municipal professionals all around the Mediterranean.

Capacity building and training
ECODIT has helped set up and capacity build institutions to manage and
monitor the environment, such as the Jenin Joint Solid Waste Services
Council in Palestine, the Tripoli Environment and Development Observatory
in Lebanon, and the Drarga Municipality Sanitation Division in Morocco.
Identifying cost-effective environmental investments
In Brazil, ECODIT has worked with the Bahia Water and Sanitation
Company to identify six municipalities, out of a total of 414 in the State
of Bahia, offering the highest economic and human health benefits per unit
cost of investment in improved water supply and sanitation projects.
Promoting trade and development linkages
ECODIT has helped U.S. and European development agencies and private
companies promote and export environmental technologies and services to
Southeast Asia and Latin America.
