Strategic Sustainable Regional Development Plan for the Caza of Tyre & SEA of the SSRDP
From 2013 to 2016, and as part of the consortium CRI-URBI-ECODIT Liban-IAURIF, ECODIT Liban studied and analyzed the environmental component of the Strategic Sustainable Regional Development Plan (SSRDP) for the Caza of Tyre. The SSRDP is a planning tool that aims to help the Union of Tyre Municipalities in South Lebanon in identifying the main issues that are at stake in the area and in outlining its future development. Specifically, ECODIT Liban prepared a baseline assessment, a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis, and consulted with several local municipalities to propose development projects. Separately, ECODIT Liban prepared the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) of the SSRDP to (1) integrate environmental priorities into the SSRDP, (2) evaluate the linkages of environmental considerations with socio-economic, land and urban considerations, and (3) assess environmental, social and economic impacts of the SSRDP. In the course of the SEA, ECODIT Liban organized consultation meetings with local government agencies, NGOs and the public sector to solicit views and concerns.
